John Mayer debuted a tender new song, “I Guess I Just Feel Like,” during a performance at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California.
John Mayer debuted a tender new song, “I Guess I Just Feel Like,” during a performance at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California Wednesday.
Mayer delivered the song solo, with just his acoustic guitar as accompaniment. The lyrics are a potent meditation on the flaws, anxieties and hopes that seem to unite everyone, as well as the desire to say optimistic in a pessimistic world. Over simple strumming Mayer croons, “I think I remember this dream that I had/ That loves gonna save us from the world that’s gone mad/ I guess I just feel like, what happened to that?”
“I Guess I Just Feel Like” marks the second new song Mayer has shared since his seventh studio album, The Search for Everything, arrived last April. Back in May, Mayer released the slick single, “New Light,” which featured production from hip-hop stalwart No I.D. Along with his solo work, Mayer has spent much of the past few years on the road with members of the Grateful Dead in the offshoot group, Dead & Company.
