Watch Perfect Strangers’ Pop Culture Super-Mash Video For ‘Breaking Away’

The Bengaluru rock band’s debut album ‘A Strange Connection’ releases on September 15th

Bengaluru rock band Perfect Strangers may have recruited filmmakers and actors in Czech Republic for their previous video “Selfie,” but if their new single “Breaking Away” is anything to go by, it was a casting coup of sorts.

The lyric video for their latest song is a supercut of famous faces ”“ both recent, yesteryear and timeless ”“ singing the words and matching their dance moves to riffs and organ-like keys. As their tribute to pop culture, “Breaking Away” covers everyone from football legend Diego Maradona and Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson to heavy metal pioneer Ronnie James Dio, Rod Stewart, guitar virtuosos like Carlos Santana, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and many more. Apart from a glimpse of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, they even throw in cringe-worthy B-grade Indian cinema footage and recent internet sensations like “dancing uncle” Sanjeev Srivastava.

While there’s plenty of pause-and-guess moments grabbed from films, live performance footage and music videos, Perfect Strangers also include a nod to animated show Rick and Morty and the Harry Potter film franchise for a split second. Full points, of course, for finding perfect lip sync moments in Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open.”

Perfect Strangers will launch their debut album A Strange Connection on September 15th at Fandom at Gilly’s Redefined, Bengaluru.
