Watch Technology Take Over in ‘Black Mirror’ Season Five Trailer
Miley Cyrus and Anthony Mackie to appear in the new episodes
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the fifth season of anthology series Black Mirror, which will premiere June 5th, alongside the ominous caption “You should’ve seen it coming.” The trailer teases the season’s “three new stories,” cutting together a collection of shots from the episodes that continue the show’s obsession with smart phones, virtual reality and technology.
The cast for season five includes Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace and Fleabag‘s Andrew Scott, as well as Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Angourie Rice, Damson Idris, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin. Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones return as the showrunners.
Cyrus, who appears to be playing a pop star of sorts, previously revealed she’d be guest starring in episode to Howard Stern. “There’s a lot of dimension to it, and actually it was while the devastation of Malibu was happening, and it was a really weird learning experience for me because I was so far from home and the show is already really dark, and it’s already kind of eerie when you’re there the whole time,” Cyrus told the host. “But I learned a lot about myself, and I think I was able to use that and put that into it.”
Season five of Black Mirror follow’s the show’s stand-alone episode “Black Mirror: Banderstanch,” which dropped at the end of 2018. The episode, helmed Brooker and director David Slade, allowed views to make decisions on behalf of the main character, played by Will Poulter.
