Exclusive Premiere: Kill The King Set Their Mission Statement on Rattling New Single ‘Regicide’

The Pune/Siliguri group draw from classic thrash metal influences on their second single

Before Pune-based guitarist Aditya Swaminathan had decided on Kill The King (KTK) as the name of their thrash metal project, they had Regicide in mind. “But then we found out that there’s already a death metal band from Bangalore with the same name, so we decided on KTK. That being said, we decided to name the title track of the album ‘Regicide,’ although it’s more like a title track of the band,” Swaminathan says with a laugh.

Joined by vocalist Siliguri vocalist Pritam Goswami Adhikary, guitarist Rishikesh Dharap, drummer Akarsh Singh, “Regicide” is a cutthroat, molten thrash offering. The six and a half minute track is also the first to feature bassist and sound engineer Saurabh Lodha (from thrash metal band KASCK), who joined in May. The track – which follows up their debut single “In The Name of Culture” – was written in December last year and stays true to a classic, unrelenting thrash metal sound. “Considering the theme of the song and the fact that it pretty much represents the band’s ideology demands for that classic thrash sound I guess. After all, what’s thrash if you aren’t questioning authority, and if you’re questioning authority what better way to do it than with the true essence of thrash,” Swaminathan says.

There’s a third single coming up with a music video, with final tracking still ongoing. “We hope to announce something concrete about it along with the video. Obviously playing live is a dream to be fulfilled not before 2022 as it seems, so as for this year, we are primarily going to be focusing on wrapping up the album and working on the music video,” the guitarist says.
