Among the numerous panel discussions and music conferences which have increased in popularity in Mumbai, few have garnered interest from the city’s rock and metal circuit. Rock Factor India–who deal with artist promotion, event planning and take on record label duties–have put together Rock Revolution 2018 on July 8th in Mumbai.

Rock Revolution will host a summit of four speakers followed by four performances. Mumbai metallers Zygnema’s guitarist Sidharth Kadadi, rockers Daira’s frontman Piyush Kapoor, prog rock band Coshish vocalist-guitarist Mangesh Gandhi and prog/fusion band Paradigm Shift’s Kaushik Ramachandran will sit down for an open discussion on heavy music in the country and in Mumbai.

According to Gandhi, Rock Revolution is a breath of fresh air and provides a platform for sharing experiences with aspiring musicians.  “The Indian independent scene sorely needed such interactive platforms where ideas and thoughts can be freely discussed. This had to be done years ago in my honest opinion and full credit to folks at Rock Factor for making this happen. They have worked through some grave odds to put this together and I urge everyone to come and be a part of this. I truly believe this is the start of something special and hope the young guns hugely benefit from this,” he says.

After a 90-minute discussion and Q&A session, the bands take over the stage for a wide-ranging showcase. Heavy metallers Albatross will close proceedings, supported by prog/experimental rock band Across Seconds, rock act Corner Café Chronicles and alt rock band Last Minute. Albatross bassist and songwriter Riju Dasgupta aka Dr. Hex says he’s quite curious about the discussions taking place at the summit. For their part, Albatross have been managing with new guitarist Purujit Srivastava shuttling between Indore and Mumbai. “Four Sundays in a month, he’s down here to jam with us,” Dasgupta adds. Although they’re playing a fairly early set (wrapping up by around 8 pm), Albatross promise a short but fun set.

Rock Factor India’s Rock Revolution 2018 takes place on July 8th at Score Sports Bar, Mumbai. Entry: Rs 200. Event details here.
