In his new single “Put it on Me,” eaJ isn’t trying too hard to get your attention. Instead, the song subtly evokes intimacy and reassurance, keeping you hooked from the very beginning. From the opening lines, “I don’t mess with trouble, but for you, I might be down for it,” the sincerity is palpable. It’s a reflection on how love isn’t about making grand gestures, but about having the humble determination to be there for someone, no matter what.

“The sound of the track was inspired by a lot of different artists: Mk.gee/Jon Bellion/Dijon/etc,” eaJ tells Rolling Stone India, elaborating that he wanted it to feel like a warm, lingering late-night talk. The production mixes alternative pop, R&B, and indie sensibilities with synth and percussive snaps spaced out in a way that lets his vocals breathe.

There’s something special about this song. Maybe it’s the way eaJ’s voice wraps around the lyrics, and makes it sound like a promise. As he sings, “Don’t your head hurt? Why keep it all on the inside? We can share the weight if you hold up your side. So tell me now,” he offers a gentle reminder about the value of human connection in a world where it’s easy to feel alone.

“Put it on Me” reflects eaJ’s personal journey. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Korea, Canada, and California, the singer, songwriter, and former member of the popular Korean pop rock band Day6 often felt like he didn’t quite fit in anywhere. “It was really hard for me to make friends,” he admits in a press statement. Through music, he finally found his place, real friends, and a sense of belonging.

The inspiration behind “Put it on Me” came from a moment when a fan, who had followed him for years, finally got to meet him at a festival in their hometown. “That moment brought me back to life, reaffirming I still had worth on this planet to some people,” he shares.

The song’s music video has a classic black-and-white look, with eaJ and his band performing against the backdrop of an ocean. The monochromatic visuals go well with the song’s minimalist aesthetic, cutting out distractions to focus squarely on the music and emotional graph. It’s as if the black-and-white palette peels away the layers and gets to the heart of what’s real.

With ‘Put it on Me,” eaJ is almost extending an open hand, offering hope and support. “The message is simple. I feel like there are a lot of people who find it hard to unload the weight they carry to the people around them. Maybe it’s time to give yourself the help you deserve and give your surroundings the perspective they deserve.”
