Natania Releases Pop Infused EP ‘Pick It Up’

The record is the Los Angeles/Mumbai singer-songwriter’s first after a host of singles under her name

Over the last few years, we’ve closely watched Los Angeles/Mumbai singer-songwriter Natania Lalwani’s career grow from strength to strength. She’s steadily climbed the ladder by releasing quirky pop singles (“Prisoner,” “Enough,” “Mess Me Up,” “Yellow Lights,” “Muscle Memory“) to featuring on the soundtrack of web series Four More Shots Please! and also working as a co-writer with Indian playback singer Armaan Malik on his newest songs “Next 2 Me” and “Control.” Lalwani says, “[Composer] Mikey McCleary pulled me into work on the Four More Shots Please! soundtracks, a show that has been breaking glass ceilings and with so much female energy [and] working with Armaan Malik has been another incredible journey.” Now, Lalwani is out with her debut five-track EP titled Pick It Up.

The musician explains that the record was unplanned and was just something fun she wanted to do with American producer and mixing engineer Ethan Roberts. She says, “We got into the studio and had such a blast.” The artist didn’t bound herself to any rules and let her creative juices flow to create something bold and colorful. “It was the most fun process making music ever,” says Lalwani.

The whole EP is plastered with pop energy right across it from the opening title track to the mid record song “Let’s Go” and even the closer “Get Together.” The singer-songwriter says, “What’s funny is while I was writing them I was just having fun and wasn’t thinking too deep about the lyrics but they are all actually motivation themed songs which reflects how I was feeling.” Intertwined is also Indian percussion elements on songs including “Real Thing” and “Everybody.” “It reminds me of the festival Holi,” she says.

In regards to promoting the record in the midst of the coronavirus, Lalwani is going to use social media and digital campaigns to spread the word. While in lockdown she’s been able to stay productive and write and record music as well as up her cooking skills. In the works is a new bi-lingual (English and Hindi) song she’s releasing in the near future. “Lots of exciting projects coming up,” says Lalwani.
