Watch Everglow’s Fiery Video for ‘First’
The track serves as the lead single off the South Korean group’s latest EP ‘Last Melody’
South Korean girl group Everglow are back after nearly eight months with their third EP, Last Melody. The lead single off the EP, “First” offers listeners a blend of powerful trap beats, strong vocals, and energetic choreography as the group sings about searching for a new beginning.
The music video opens with the members taking off a gas mask, staring intently at a futuristic hydraulic lift. The drama thickens with the shift in scene, showing the members in an abandoned industrial plant, moving to the beats of an almost celestial and emotive classical string arrangement. The ensemble slowly fades out, foraying in a powerful trap beat accompanied by vocalist Mia singing, “I was afraid of the dark night (Ah yeah, yeah)/ You secretly hid too (Ah yeah, yeah.)”
Members Aisha and E:U further elevate the tracks’ up tempo-pop composition as they rap about the importance of persevering when searching for a new beginning amidst the chaos, “You can fall down (stand up) / That’s you (hands up)/ Faster, strong better/ Gotta be the best/ Between night and morning/ Roughly 5:30 in the morning/ The war against gunshots holds your breath.”
As the video proceeds, the group demonstrates powerful choreographed moves against various backdrops ranging from a serene beach to the uncharted terrains of outer space. Everglow keep the mood fierce with an amalgamation of an addictive synth hook and confident vocals.
Last Melody is the group’s third EP since their 2020 hit, -77.82X-78.29. The latest record provides a peek into Everglow’s artistry with a blend of different genres reflected in the tracks, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” a bright pop anthem, “Please Please” a pop ballad, and the EP’s title track, “First.”
